| Synopsis : | This is a joint exhibition by artists Raphael Scott Ahbeng and Melton Kais, who both hail from Sarawak. Born in 1938, Raphael Scott Ahbeng is a multi-talented Bidayuh painter, broadcaster, writer and cartoonist. He first started painting and drawing in 1948 and has won numerous awards and scholarships to foreign institutions. Melton Kais is another talented Bidayuh artist whose paintings are selling very well in Sarawak but is still somewhat under-represented in Kuala Lumpur. In March 2007, Dewan Bahasa Dan Budaya published his artworks in “Perjuangan Seni Melton Kais”. Melton is currently still teaching art at PMR, SPM and STPM levels in a school in Kuching. However, his love and passion for painting is such that he will wake up early every morning and put in a few hours of painting - starting at 4am - before going to his teaching job. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Sat 8 Nov 2008 at 3pm and will be officiated by Ms Gracie Geikie, CEO of the Sarawak Tourism Board. This will be followed by a Sarawak cultural performance and traditional costume parade at 4pm. |
