Synopsis : Trace, by Susie Wong, is an installation comprising of portraits, that infers from the images of smiling children, generally thought to be free from wounding or loss, a sense of impending loss.

In her installation, Susie examines the meaning of portraits in contemporary context. Portraits exist predominantly as cultural objects in Chinese society.

With this in mind, she re-proposes their significance and meaning under Western conventions, while conveying contemporary ideas in light of other new media influences on our conception of portraiture.

Susie Wong is an art writer, curator and artist living in Singapore. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honours) from the National University of Singapore and went on to pursue a Masters of Fine Art at the Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore.

In her art practices, she is a painter and she often works with the figure as a subject in her work.

She has written for numerous publications on art since the late 1980s. Wong has also exhibited widely in both group and solo shows.
