BOH Cameronian Arts Awards

"Progressive art can assist people to learn not only about the objective forces at work in the society in which they live, but also about the intensely social character of their interior lives. Ultimately, it can propel people toward social emancipation."

Synopsis :

Directed by Erma Fatima, it depicts the early life of Maria Hertogh, better known as Natrah, who was left in the care of Che Aminah Mohamad.

Sergeant Hertogh was captured by the Japanese Army and sent to a POW holding facility in Japan, where he was interred until 1945. Adelaine Hertogh asked her good friend Che Aminah to help and look after Maria for a few days.

Shortly after the war, the Hertogh's sought the help of the Dutch authorities to locate their daughter in Bandung, Java.

By then, Aminah had taken Maria home to Kemaman, Terengganu.

The Dutch authorities in Java found Aminah and Maria in 1949, but Aminah refused to give Maria up.

The cast of the musical is led by Maya Karin as Natrah, Sofia Jane (Natrah at 70), Umie Aida (Aminah), Remy Ishak (Mansor) and Samantha Schubert (Adelaine Hertogh).
