| Synopsis : | TEA Theatre presents Amelia Tan as Ang Tau Mui , in Leow Puay Tin's internationally acclaimed play about the aspirations of a toilet cleaner. Ang Tau Mui ('red bean girl', a nickname from her previous job at a dessert stall) is obsessed with 1960's Hong Kong movie queen Lin Dai , and she wishes to become a famous star like her idol. Later, she falls in love with a Hokkien theatre actor and both run away from home to Kuala Lumpur. She works as a toilet cleaner inside a business building. Single and fighting her 40s, Ang Tau Mui is fast on the way to becoming an "Auntie". But in spite of society's prejudices, she knows herself to be a Modern Woman, who has worked hard for the freedom to live as she sees fit. She disregards conventions, and sometimes the law, and is not above the temptations of the flesh. It’s her life after all, and she runs the cleanest loos in the land! Throughout, neither retail therapy nor her rose-scented air freshener offers much solace for broken dreams, she finally wakes up from her dreams and faces reality on the last day of her life. Presented by: TEA Theatre ** 90 mins Mandarin monologue (with English subtitles) |
