| Synopsis : | Cempaka Schools have taken on West Side Story for their box office production this year, promising more energetic dancing, acting and singing by the young actors, who will be accompanied by the school's choir and orchestra. The American version of Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is written by Arthur Laurents, Leonard Berstein and Stephen Sondheim. Set in New York during the mid-50s,’ the musical is a love story between Tony, a member of the White gang, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the rival Puerto Rican gang. This year, the lead characters are being played by Leon Ang and Claudillea Holloway, in a production that involves over 70 other students. There will be a special charity performance held on the 11th of Nov for orphans, disadvantaged children and the elderly. All proceeds from the musical will go to the Cempaka Travel and Learn Fund which allows students to travel for charitable activities. |

| An Outstanding performance from Cempaka Orchestra and Cast. Claudillea gave Maria the voice of an Angel and Leon rose to the occasion as Tony. Both played their roles with eloquence and aplomb. Performances by Tasha as a fiesty Anita and Khal as cocky, slick, rebel-rouser Riff, breathed life and vigour into the characters, and all but stole the show! Bernado's hatred of the Jets and everything American was palpable, whilst Lt. Schrank was Cool! Excellent Casting and Brilliant choreography combined with an outstanding orchestra make this show AWESOME! ~~CONGRATULATIONS CEMPAKA!!~~
