| Synopsis : | Victoria Cattoni, currently undertaking a visual arts Asialink residency at Rimbun Dahan, will be discussing her recent interactive research-based project "Through the Kebaya". This cross-cultural project undertaken in Indonesia and Australia was developed around an extensive series of video-performance based workshops and exhibitions held in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Bali in Indonesia and Darwin in Australia.
The talk will use visual data to focus on the multiple forms, functions and meanings of the kebaya as it exists today. Focusing on a number of locations in Indonesia, it provides an increased comprehension of the changing roles and status of women, and of how women see themselves today. It will include a screening of excerpts of a number of video-performance works including ‘Reading the Kebaya’ [Jakarta 2003] and 'Tamasya Kebaya' [Darwin 2002-3]. Fellow artists, art students and enthusiasts are invited to attend the talk. |
