| Synopsis : | Formerly known as "Black Machine", GruvAvenue exploded onto the KL music scene with its inaugural performance in The Actors Studio, Plaza Putra in 2001. They have not looked back since and have been busy securing regular stints in jazz clubs around here. Their self-titled debut album GruvAvenue, consisting of entirely original material, was launched in July 2005.
Leading the band is Vincent Ong, (Bassist, Double Bassist, Composer) an accomplished musician who has done it all - from quiet jazz trios to propulsive improvisational ensembles. Equally adept at the electric bass, Vincent is also a composer, with original instrumental tunes encompassing a gamut of styles. Charles Wong (Drummer, Arranger) has established himself as one of the most tasteful and reliable drummers in the industry. Besides being a busy gigging drummer, he is also a highly sought after recording sessionist, and has appeared on numerous records in the pop and jazz world. Clement Siow (Pianist, Keyboardist, Arranger, Composer Arranger, keyboardist, pianist, educator and electone hero) also known as the livewire of the band, is a multi talented individual who redefines the role of the keyboardist with his mastery of the instrument and his musicianship. His amiable and jovial personality often provides relief to the band in difficult circumstances. Shazee Ishak (Saxophonist, Flutist) is one of the exciting new saxophonists to appear in recent years. Also a recording artiste, Shazee has a string of memorable and accessible compositions to boot, one of which has been performed by the band. A not to be missed performance! |
