| Synopsis : | The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake is primarily remembered for its tsunamis; a deluge that took hundreds of thousands of lives from all around the region. In the catastrophe's aftermath, six students from the National University of Singapore (NUS)'s University Scholars Programme interviewed people living in Aceh, Phuket, Phang Nga and Penang.
This documentation forms the heart of Boxing Day, a play combining text, multimedia, sonic landscape and performance that aims to bring across moments of recollection: what we remember of Boxing Day 2004. Boxing Day utilises the Verbatim Theatre method, and promises that "the verbalised thoughts and emotions of those who witnessed and are witnessing the Tsunami’s destruction will be effectively conveyed to audiences". Directed by Alvin Tan, with text by Haresh Sharma. Dramaturged by Elaine Foo, with set design by Vincent Lim, and multimedia design by Brian Gothong Tan. Featuring, among others, Yeo Yann Yann and Nam Ron. |
