| Synopsis : | Fuelled by his fascination with the goddess, international soloist Mavin Khoo returns with Devi: In Absolution, a piece he conceived, choreographed and will perform. A collaboration with renowned international vocalist OS Arun, the work is a classical Bharata Natyam offering, whereby the goddess is alluded to in three forms; as Meenakshi (the child), Durga (the Warrior) and Kali (the Destroyer). Devi is synonymous with Shakti, the female aspect of the divine, as conceptualised by the tradition of goddess worship. She is the female counterpart without whom the male aspect, which represents consciousness or discrimination, remains void. Mavin explores these three manifestations by providing a theatrical compositional landscape within the Bharata Natyam genre. Set against fragements of film installation, the work is a celebration of divine female absolution as it is an all pervading force of innocence, love, energy and destruction. Also performing are VR Chandrasekhar (Mridangam), Praveen Kumar (Nattuvangam) and G Sridhar (Flute). The performance is in aid of PUSAKA. |
