Synopsis :

In this concert, Mr Yap Jin Hin and Ms Jane Soong will perform various repertoires such as German lieder, Italian folk songs, Chinese art songs and folk songs, operatic arias and highlights from Puccini's La boheme.

Mr Yap Jin Hin, Tenor has graduated as the Master of Music at Louisiana State Univeristy in May. From the studio of Robert Grayson, he has performed the Male Chorus in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Alfredo in  La traviata, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Father of Confessor in Dialogues of the Carmelites and Schmidt in Werther with the LSU Opera.  He also appreared as Monostatos in The Magic Flute with Opera Louisiane and Count Almaviva in Barber of Seville with the Acadiana Symphony of Lafayette and as King Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors.  He was a regional finalist in the Met National Council Auditions.  Mr Yap has participated in the Chicago Opera Theater Young Artist Program (COTYAP) in 2008 and Des Moines Metro Opera Apprentice Artiist Program in 2006 and 2008.  He is a recipient of the Paul Groves Voice Scholarship, Francis Greer Voice Scholarship, the Baton Rouge Opera Guild (BROG) Career Grant and the Baton Rouge Music Club Scholarship.

Born in Seremban, Jane Soong has obtained her Bachelor degree from the University of Malaya, under the tutelage of Mr Ian Lim Kean Seng.  She also studied with Ms Yeoh Kong Liew and Mr Woon Chi Choong.  During her studies, she has involved in various concerts and competitions. In 2006, she has won 3rd place of the National Classical Songs Singing Competition.  She also performed frequently at the Yamaha Music School Concerts and the annual music showcase of UM.  As a member of Dithyrambic singers, she has participated in many performances with the choir, especially the Busan Choral Festival and Competition in Korea last year, which the choir won the overall champion.  In April 2009, she has given a recital in DBKL.  In this August, she will start her master studies at Louisiana State University.
