Synopsis :

Musicians, NGO's and eco-friendly commercial organisations are set to come together and rock it to raise funds for the Orangutan Appeal UK, in conjuction with Earth Week.

Highlighting the plight of the endangered Orang Utan species, this two-day arts, music and environmental educational festival, will see participation by organisations like the Malaysia Nature Society, Forest Voices and Tiny Tapir.

The program, initiated by expat rock band, Benchmarx, also raises vital funds and awareness for conservation and environmental education oriented NGO's in Malaysia, and awareness about sustainable living during Earth Week.

Schedule:

1. Orangutan Rock

Date & Time: Fri 17 Apr 2009 (9pm - 1am) 
Venue: Little Havana, Changkat Bukit Bintang KL
A Rock concert featuring Benchmarx and local rock act Pop Shuvit. A fee is charged at the door with ALL proceeds going to the Orangutan Appeal UK.


2. Rockin' For the Environment @ SohoKL - Educational Community Outreach Project

Date: Sat 18 - Sun 19 Apr 2009 (12pm - 6pm)
Venue: SoHoKL @ Solaris Mon’t Kiara
A two-day Arts, Music and Educational Fun Festival with a major focus on animal and environmental conservation awareness; Fashion & Eco-Fair Bazaar, Environmental Talks by environmental science teacher and author Kenny Peavy of Benchmarx, writer/photographer Noah Jackson of Forest Voices, and sustainable living choices by Tiny Tapir.

Join in at the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) recycled paper making Workshop, and there will be loads of fun activities and games for kids, a Gerai Orang Asli, Adopt-an-Orang-Utan, Singer songwriter acoustic performances and more!

Doppelganger Open Mic Open Stage presents acoustic performances on both days from 4-6pm featuring Benchmarx, Markisa and Peter Brown, Yunar, Wani Ardy, Maleena, George Wong, Five States of Mind, Ida Lisa, Funkcoustic, Crowd of None and Jungle Drums and Percussions!


3. Schokolart Hi-Tea Buffet

Date & Time: Sat, 18 April 2009 (2pm - 5pm)
Venue: Level 1, SoHoKL @ Solaris Mon’t Kiara.
Reserve your spot for the Schokolart Hi-Tea buffet, where a delicious spread of chocolate drinks, cakes and a giant chocolate fondue awaits you! RM35+ per person, where 15% of your money spent will be donated to the Orang Utan Appeal UK. Plus, wine tasting courtesy of Banrock Station wines. RM1 will be donated to the Appeal with every bottle sold.


4. Go Bananas Ape Disco & 50 Sen Coin Beer at Boston

Date & Time: Sat, 18 April 2009 (9pm - late)
Venue: Level 1, SoHoKL @ Solaris Mon’t Kiara
Dance Saturday night away with members from the Benchmarx. Pay RM25 for your first beer, bring back your bottle and enjoy beers at only 50 sen! No washing of glasses, no serviettes! Portion of the beers sales will go towards the Orang Utan Appeal UK.

Call for action

The Orangutan Adoption Scheme only costs RM180! Sign up at any of the events for your orangutan adoption pack and receive a certificate, newsletter, photos of the orangutan baby and a short story about the orangutans history at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. In six months, adoptees will receive an update on the progress the orangutan and more photos.
