Synopsis : Fancy some poetry and black electronic music?

Music producer, club DJ and poet Charlie Dark is the latest in a line of British talents that will be injecting a dose of cool in the local poetry scene this month.

Charlie hits our shores not only to perform with Malaysian and Singaporean poets in the fifth instalment of the now popular Wayang Kata poetry nights series, but also to give an electrifying live showcase of black music in Blacktronica, sharing the decks with local drum ‘n’ bass and hip hop collective The Works and fellow British producer Morgan Spacek.

Charlie Dark is a renaissance man in the world of performance, fusing poetry, DJing and storytelling with casual ease. Despite over fourteen years behind the decks, Charlie’s first love was the spoken word.

He was one of the individuals responsible for starting the famous Speaker’s Corner jams and he continues to wow audiences with his apt observations and insights whenever he steps up to the microphone.

Charlie makes regular appearances on the international literature and spoken word circuit and has toured with the British Council to Germany, Spain and The Netherlands.

An articulate explorer of the ways in which music and text collide, Charlie Dark is also globally recognised as an important musical visionary through his eclectic DJ sets, production and remix work and most recently as the founder of Blacktronica, a loose collective of poets, painters, musicians, film makers and other creative types.

Conceived in the winter of 2001, Blacktronica continues to push, explore and unify the innovative sounds of the black electronic music scene in the UK with its global cousins.
