| Synopsis : | Entry Points, the first programme of 1948 Artspace, an arts and cultural space and resource centre that seeks to engage the creative energies and interests of current new village residents in art and cultural activities that brings together people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Entry Points is a contemporary arts project that aims to reach out to community through long term interaction, grounded by processes of finding and working with "entry points" between art and community. Phase I of this project runs from 14 Jun - 14 Sep 2008, and will consist of four exhibitions, workshops, talks, public interactions and collaborative activities with residents. What's in store: Sat 14 Jun 2008 4.30pm History, Government Discourses and Subaltern Views: The Differences of New Villages from Texts and Fieldworks. This is a talk by Ms Phoon Yuen Ming, a PhD Student at National University of Singapore and author of "One New Village, One Type of Chinese". 6pm Opening of the first Entry Points exhibition, graced by Yang Berhormat Ean Yong Hian Wah, Seri Kembangan State Assemblyman ~ The parallel exhibition of historical photographs, Towards A History From Below - Emergency, Resettlement and New Village will run from 14 - 16 June 2008. The exhibition is on loan from the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. The participating artists are Chong Kim Chiew, Uncle Chu, Helen Guek Yee Mei, Aunty Loh Yoke Ping, Tan Hui Koon, Tan Sit Yaw, Zheng Tian Chai. Entry Points is supported bt the Annexe Central Market's Grant for Grabs. *Please Note: - Phoon Yuen Ming's talk will be in Mandarin only. - Exhibition text for "Towards a History from Below: Emergency, Resettlement and New Village" is in Chinese only. |
