| Synopsis : | Growing up in a family with thin, penetrable personal boundaries, Li'l Bit becomes the victim of an incestuous intimacy - Uncle Peck does not only teach his teenage niece to drive, but sexualises her childhood as well. Narrated through a series of bittersweet flashbacks, How I Learned to Drive is an honest, coming-of-age account on forgiveness, healing and growth – and how one can find light even from the unhealthiest of relationships. How I Learned to Drive was first produced in 1997 in New York City and has since been awarded, in addition to the Pulitzer: the Obie, the Drama Desk Award, the New York Drama Critics' Award, the Outer Circle Critics Award, and the Lucille Lortel Award. Featuring Amelia Chen, Johann Lim, Doreen Loo, Mark Beau de Silva and Davina Goh with Kelvin Wong as Creative Director. Presented by The Oral Stage. *recommended for mature audience **Win tickets to the show! Click HERE and find out how. |

| Act one was very enjoyable - the script is really good and the actors were doing a fair job. By the time intermission came, I felt this was a solid performance. Then Act two started. Wow. The entire cast put obvious hard work into this performance, but two actors really touched in particular. Davina Goh delivered a monologue that still haunts me today. Her performance as the abuser's wife was absolutely stellar. I often wonder how a woman can let her husband get on with inappropriate relationships... I got my answer through Davina's empathy and interpretation of her character's motivations, spirit and state of mind. Johan Lim, as 'the abuser' was also very good at drawing me to his character, feeling for him rather than accusing him. It is always disturbing to empathize with a criminal. Good job, Oral Stage!!! And thank you!
