| Synopsis : | For a selection of exciting films - compiled, not curated - from among like-minded people who are just addicted to making films, for whatever noble or twisted reasons, Anything Goes, Anything Shows! is for you. In this, the 8th edition of the monthly film night, Filmmakers Anonymous and Palate Palette proudly present seven short films from FA5: Filmmakers Anonymous 5 (from the Filmmakers Anonymous series), which dives deep into the troubling normality of violence against women. Presenting: ‘Drizzling Rain’ by Yap Teck Wei (15mins/2007) Ah Hong and Angel are two teenage girls from a small town, who have been best friends since childhood. Over the years, their relationship becomes intimate, up to the point that it is sometimes misinterpreted. Neither girl confronts their real feelings, afraid of hurting the other. One day, Ah Hong decides to leave the small town but finds herself unable to without Angel. She asks Angel to go with her, but Angel is reluctant as it would mean leaving her sister alone. Will Ah Hong be together with Angel? 'Up Yours’ by Juria Toramae & Aliff Zulkifli (2mins/2007) ‘Up Yours’ is a short film about a guy who uses technology against womens’ rights and two girls who conspired to catch him in the act. 'Venmai’ by S. Balachandran (17mins/2006) ‘Venmai’ is about the injustice on Indian bonded laborers and the sexual assaults on women in rural estates. It is modern day slavery. ‘Wanita Kosmos’ by Diffan Sina Norman (5mins/2003) Light-hearted and satirical animation film about the selection of a young Islamic woman to be the first Malaysian cosmonaut. The film was made in a kind of school textbook style (in fact based on the Peter and Jane books), that makes a major contribution to the strange and entertaining effect. The life of the woman is totally changed by her election. For those who think that Malaysia has cosmonauts or that a Muslim woman could become a cosmonaut, this film might be less enjoyable. ‘Linda’ by Kit Ong (8mins/2005) Ween meets Linda. Ween says she knows Linda from before. Linda does not remember Ween. Ween gives Linda a ride. 'Living Dead Dolls’ by Siti Nuraishah Baharum (2mins/2005) Dialogue-free sketch of a fat girl who is oppressed by the dominant values of normative heterosexism. Honey, tell us about it! ‘Laundry’ by Mien.ly (10mins/2007) Davina never really bothered herself with other people’s dirty laundry; God knows she has enough of her own. Just like how sometimes people just don’t see other people as people, until a moment occurs and then the situation asks of them to open up their eyes and see the things they might not like to see. How Davina reacts to the moment will decide if she is really ready to grow up. ~ This special edition is brought to you in corporation with http://www.takebackthetech.net/ and http://www.cijmalaysia.org/. If you are a film addict yourself, please bring a DVD copy of your film to the screening and pass it to the organisers. |
