| Synopsis : | "This world is a house of mask, Goddess of mercy and God of salvation, for those who tremble with fear, for those who fail to secure, for those who pray too much, put on your masks..." – Baha Zain Topeng-Topeng is an adaptation from Dato’ Baha Zain’s poems, depicting the voices of the people in the 1960’s and 1970’s era. The story starts at the Bistro, the after-work hang-out of professionals, where we meet Gito, an ex-party member and owner of the bistro lives it up with his other patrons. But his fun comes to an abrupt halt one night when Gito's wife and mistress find out about each other. Conflict after conflict arise, as the characters unmask their real self and feelings. Directed by Fauziah Nawi with music by Iryanda Mulia Ramli. ~ Born on 22 May 1939 in Perak, Baha Zain is an alumni of Anglo Chinese School Telok Intan and Anderson School Ipoh. He received his Tertiary education in University of Malaya and then furthered his studies at The Faculty of ART, University of Indonesia. He joined Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka as a research officer and later became head of Literary Planning and Development Division. He was then appointed Editor of the Dewan Bahasa, Dewan Sastera and Dewan Budaya magazines, and now serves as Vice President of the National Writers Association (PENA). Baha Zain is the second recipient of the Sea Write Award 1981. His poem "Topeng-Topeng" won the national Literary Award for Poetry (1971). |
