| Synopsis : | “The Return of Culture Town – Kajang Community Art Carnival 2008” is initiated and presented by New Era College. This is an art carnival that hopes to re-create the past glories of Kajang as a cultural town, through interaction with the local community. “Kajang Community Art Carnival 2008” curated by Dr. Wong Oi Min, is being held in conjunction with New Era College's 10th Anniversary celebrations and is scheduled to happen in May and June 2008. Artists from different art practices will be invited to become “artists in school” in kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in Kajang. Artists will work together with students in schools to create a work together that will be presented on the 7th of June in the form of a mobile pageant. Joining this event is the renowned Puppet Theatre PUK from Japan, and two puppet artists from the theatre company will collaborate with children from local schools in Kajang. Currently, the “Kajang Community Art Carnival 2008” is calling for submissions for the “Artist in School” project. Four local artists from these respective practices - visual arts, music and dance - will be selected by a committee which comprises of the curator and representatives from participating schools. Any artists that were born, grew up, living in or has other relations with the Kajang community are welcome to send in applications. Selected artists will be working daily with school children from 23rd May to 6th June 2008. Artist Honorarium will also be provided.
