Synopsis : The HSBC Classics Piano Festival returns, with the promise of a performances, lecture recitals, masterclasses, exhibitions and the HSBC Classics Piano Competition, featuring local and international, young and established artistes.

This is the first year the competition segment has been introduced into the festival, and it has been designed to provide young pianists a platform to showcase their talent.

It is open to Malaysians under the age of 26 as at 12 July 2008.

This year’s competition winners will win cash prizes up to RM14,000. As with the practice in the previous years, all finalists will also receive vouchers for the purchase of music books and accessories.

The first prize winner will also be given the opportunity to perform in a fully-sponsored concert at the next HSBC Classics festival in 2009.

In keeping with HSBC's commitment to nurture local music talent, HSBC is also offering financial assistance through the HSBC Classics Bursary.

Two bursaries, comprising a one-off payment of RM20,000 each, will be awarded to deserving Malaysians aged 25 years and below to study classical music in an internationally recognised music / performing arts school / college or music department of a recognised university.

In recommending the awards, a selection committee will take into account the candidate’s musical potential, financial need and academic background.

The closing date for submission of applications for HSBC Classics Bursary is Thu 28 Feb 2008, and for the HSBC Classics Piano Competition, Fri 4 Apr 2008.

The HSBC Classics Piano Festival 2008 will take place from 7-13 July at KLPac.
