Taking advantage of the fact that pirated DVD's come out in Malaysia before a movie's cinematic release, and with UK movie releases often a few months after they come out Stateside, Jo has discovered the perfect scam for extra cash! His modus operandi is pretty simple - purchase the DVD's, take them back to England and sell them to willing buyers for a tidy profit.

Now in his final year of university and on the last day of his last visit to Malaysia before finishing up his degree and settling in 'back home' for good, he's about to make the biggest shipment yet: 175 movies. With a buyer in England who'll pay 50 pounds a DVD in order to make copies, Jo's hit the jackpot.

Too bad he's chosen the day KL is hit with the biggest anti-piracy raid in history to pick up his shipment...

Ciplak was made for less than RM10,000, shot on a single Canon XM2 miniDV camera and edited on a home PC using Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 3.0 software. The script was originally entitled 'VCD' and written in 2001/02 before the director pulled the script out of his archives and decided to rewrite it to suit the current climate. The movie was shot on weekends between October and December 2005. Everybody working on the movie did so free of charge.

Written, directed, produced, edited and starring Khairil M. Bahar, 'Ciplak' is his first attempt at a feature length film.
