Synopsis : With titles that range from "A Dog in No Chicken" to "Get Away From Me" you are assured diverse, colourful and fun films at this years European Union Film Festival!

This 9th edition will showcase some 17 films from 15 European countries, covering dramas, comedies, documentaries and everthing in between.

Here's the list and synopses of movies to be screened:


9 and ½ Dates (Hungary)
David Debreczeni is not only a famous and successful writer, but also “the most wanted man in Budapest”. When his rich girlfriend leaves him, and his publisher sues him for failing to deliver a new book in three years, it seems that his glory days have ended. The publishing company gives him an ultimatum: if he manages to write a book within 10 days, he will get his money and reputation back. She even offers the topic: Why are there so many lonely young women in Budapest? This is how he gets into the terrifying situation – for the first time in his life – where he has to listen and understand what women tell him. He meets 10 women in 10 days, and realizes his life would never be the same again.

A Chicken Is No Dog (Belgium)
When the woman who broke his heart more than 25 years ago suddenly reappears, a former boxer seizes every chance to regain both his true love and sporting honour. Their passionate relationship ended abruptly when, during the 1979 Belgian Championship, his opponent claimed that he had made love to his girl. That evening, our naïve boxer not only lost the championship, but also the love of his life.

After the Wedding (Denmark)
Jacob Petersen has dedicated his life to helping street children in India. When the orphanage he heads is threatened by closure, he receives an unusual offer. A Danish businessman, Jørgen, offers him a donation of $4 million dollars. There are, however, certain conditions... Not only must Jacob return to Denmark, he must also take part in the wedding of Jørgen's daughter. The wedding proves to be a critical juncture between past and future and catapults Jacob into the most intense dilemma of his life.

Arabian Nights (Luxembourg)
When a handsome young train controller Georges first meets Yamina in the train from Luxembourg City to Bettembourg, she was just like any other passenger whose ticket needed to be inspected. The next day, she's on board  again, but this time on the run from mysterious assailants. Yamina refuses to go to the police, so Georges kindly offers her a hiding place in his holiday cabin. As she shares her story, his compassion grows into fascination, friendship and maybe even love.

Bombay Dreams (Sweden)
Teenager Ebba has no idea who her real mother is, or her origin. In India, she and her friend Camilla go on a search for Ebba's mother.

Colorado Avenue (Finland)
As a little girl, Hanna and her mother were forced to leave their home island in the Bothnia archipelago after Hanna's father death.

Hanna becomes a maid at the Smeds' house and starts to save money to go to America. In 1893, at the age of 18, she travels to Colorado, determined to make money in the Great West. Ten years later in 1905, Hanna returns to her home village Siklax with her son Otto and daughter Ida, but without a husband. With her American dollars she buys a parcel of rocky land and opens a country store. The store becomes the village centre and the local people begin to respect the industrious Hanna – or Dollar-Hanna as they choose to call her.

Double Shift (Sweden)
This comedy follows Jonas, as he tries to take care of his baby daughter and save his friend's failing taxi company at the same time.

Get Away From Me (Spain)
Vete de mí is the tale of Edipo's father. An ordinary 55-year-old guy, who is a supporting actor in the La Latina theatre, with a 38-year-old girlfriend. He lives in a small flat in Madrid and is reasonably happy until the arrival of his 30-year-old son, a middle-class Peter Pan trying to make a place for himself in his father's life.

How to Cook Your Life (Germany)
Move over Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance - Here comes Zen and the Art of a Good Meal! Doris Doerrie, fresh from her recent theatrical success, The Fisherman and His Wife - Why Women Never Get Enough turns her attention to Buddhism and that age-old saying, you are what you eat. Doerrie enlists the help of the charismatic Zen Master Edward Espe Brown to explain the guiding principles of Zen Buddhism as they apply to the preparation of food as well as life itself.

It’s a Free World (United Kingdom)
Angie may not have much of a formal education, but she's got energy, wit and ambition, and she's in her prime. Dismissed unceremoniously from her job, Angie sets up a recruitment agency with her flat-mate Rose, working in a twilight zone between gangmasters, employment agencies and the migrant workers they place. This is a tale set against the reality of the Anglo Saxon miracle of flexible labour, globalisation, double shifts and lots of happy, happy consumers: Us.

Mozart in China (Austria)
A young Chinese Austrian boy invites his friend Danny to spend their summer vacation at the house of his grandfather on Hainan Island on the southern tip of China. Mozart, a theater marionette, comes alive that night, hides in Danny’s suitcase and flies with the two to China.

With the help of his granddaughter Lin Lin, Grandfather restores his shadow theater. A friendship developes between Danny and Lin Lin, and Mozart falls in love with the beautiful shadow princess, for whom he composes the “Chinese Sonata.”

Catastrophe arrives when the loan shark comes knocking at Grandfather’s door. As the colorful shadow puppets come to life in the shadow theater only, Mozart and the kids have to find a solution to keep the theater intact.

One Day in Europe (Germany)
A light-hearted story about four colorful characters and the amusing misunderstanding that cross-cultural communication often provides. Set in one day and taking place in different cities, language barriers are compounded by another chaotic event - the UEFA Champions League finals.

Paris (France)
Pierre, a professional dancer, suffers from a serious heart disease. While he is waiting for a transplant which may save his life, he watches the people around him from the balcony of his Paris apartment - from fruit and vegetable sellers to an illegal immigrant from Cameroon. When Elise, his sister with three kids and no husband, moves in to his place to care for him, Pierre's habits do not change, and instead of dancing himself, it is Paris and the Parisians who dance before his eyes.

The Fever (Italy)
Mario is a young man who lives in Cremona, a splendid medieval city near Milan, with his widowed mother. Mario has a project: to create a pub with a group of friends. Yet, this first professional experience appears to be quite difficult. Indeed, this friendly joint venture will become a municipal project, which changes the spirit of the enterprise.

The Ride (Czech Republic)
Disenchanted with their predictable lives, two thirty-something buddies, Radek and Franta, buy a cheap car and head for the open road in the hope of bringing some excitement into their otherwise uninspired routine. When they pick up Anne, a hitchhiker on the run from her overbearing boyfriend, they find a lot more excitement than they’d bargained for...

The Snowboarders (Czech Republic)
Rendy and Jáchym have always dreamt about their trip - sans parents - to the mountains. When they hit 16, they head to the hills for a a week of fun to learn snowboard, party and flirt with girls. But not everything goes as smoothly as they had planned…

When the Tide Comes In (Belgium)
A bittersweet and atypical love story between Irene, a comedienne in her 40s, travelling through the north of France with her one-woman show Sale Affaire (Dirty Business), and Dries, a youngish vagabond who becomes smitten with her and her show. Despite regular cell phone reminders that she has a husband and child waiting at home, Irene is nonetheless charmed by the attention of her ardent, cheerful and tender admirer.

The organisation of the 9th EUFF here is led by The French Embassy in Malaysia, as France took over the presidency of the council of the European Union on the 1st of July 2008.
