Synopsis : For a short week only, Karen Nunis Blackstone will be showing some of her recent paintings and digital works. There will be a small reception and multimedia reception to mark the opening of the show.

The artist herself on this exhibition: "I am showing paintings on canvas and board as well as digitally edited artwork printed on paper. The prints signify my interest in the computer as a vehicle for expression in the fine arts. The prints are a product of hand-drawn or hand painted-painted images that I have digitally edited and printed. Both paintings and prints, while similar in line and form, share a distinct difference in texture and color value as the final output of each medium requires a different approach in the artistic process. However, the unifying aspect is that I explore similar themes in the pieces presented- the inner self and the boundaries of perception."

Karen Nunis Blackstone is a Malaysian artist of Portuguese, Chinese and Sri Lankan descent. Born in Malacca, she began drawing and developing her artistic interests early in life as a result of having a painter for a father. Since the early 90s, Karen has been living in Japan. Most of her present art works involve the use of 'washi', Japanese rice paper; Karen has incorporated Japanese sensibilities and aesthetic concepts into her work.

Karen has held one-woman exhibitions in galleries in Malaysia, Japan and the United States, and was a recipient of the Freeman Fellowship award. Her art can be found, among elsewhere, in the collection of music legend Bob Dylan.

Karen is also a singer/songwriter and with an album, Give Me Sanity, released in 2000.
