Sekian terima kasih.

Is this play in English? Thanks!

The musical is about 90% in BM and 10% in English. There are English subtitles. But in order to read the subtitles well, because they are positioned above the stage, you should try and get seats in the grand circle or upper circle. It is very hard to watch the action on stage and read the subtitles at the same time in the stalls (ground floor).

It is an excellent musical, but I hear the tickets are already completely sold out.

When you watch P Ramlee The Musical be prepared not to expect another PGL performance. Not that P Ramlee isnt good, it's just, well, different.

Performers of opening night was totally upstaged by the good old keretapi in Act 1!!! The scene appeared so beautifully tight & simple, but am sure much thought and detail were put into it.

The storyline pretty much held it own. Though I couldn't understand the relevance to include the Separation issue in such an extremist way. Our neighbours at the time were concerned but really, to imply that there were riots and demos on that scale is questionable. Cutting that scene would help. Everybody loved the seduction scene of Saloma & P Ramlee.

Overall, the cast was strong. Sean Ghazi sang like P Ramlee only at the beginning and the end. But he was wonderful to watch, always 'on' and very focused throughout (love the details like his bare chest show at the beginning to the little paunch and catterpillar moustache at the end). The supporting cast of wives Atilla & Liza (though the Saloma we remember and loved from those old black & white movies moved alot sexier and really provocatively), paparazzi and Shaw brothers were great. The surprising exception was Melissa Saila in Act 2. Her performance was strong to begin with in the earlier club scene. The 'confrontasi' looked so promising, our anticipation whetted by her amazing outfit, truly, she looked truly fabulous. But her shaky singing and performance so over the top that it looked like P Ramlee/Sean himself was embaressed for her. Her exit line would've meant so much more if her hysteria was kept to controlled and dignified smouldering anger that she showed at the earlier club scene. Am sure it was her fellow thespians or fans in the audience who applauded the performance but it was truly, truly awful. Dato Siti was Dato Siti giving her usual high standard performance but for some reason the character Azizah didn't conjure up. Ensemble songs sometimes couldn't be understood; good job the lyrics were posted up on the screen for us to follow. Well, when it was working but we can forgive these things on an opening night.

Raja Maliq's Stage sets were brilliant. Loved the scene change diversion. Wardrobe sometimes looked like it was purchased from Blook. Where were the big boobies under lacey kebayas that would've put Madonna's cones to shame and tight fitting detailed sarongs? Dick Lee's music and lyrics were pretty and clever (apart from the tediously long Separation song). Well led by Erwin's musical direction. Pat's choreography exciting as ever. Hats off again to Adlin & Zahim's clever & tight direction. Mucho applauds also to the Infinity Productions for keeping the bar up and the rest of the stage crew who must have worked their butts off and on stage.

A good show but please, start on time; no one believes that the delay was due to technical problems. We all know what you're saying is that some VIP couldn't be arsed to leave the open house visit and that we the paying rakyat should be kept waiting.

Enjoyed the show yesterday (Sunday) and loved learning about P Ramlee and his life. As a non-malaysian it was another excellent story to tell. Those non BM speakers beware - there were no subtitles - so the jokes were lost on me. However this didn't detract from a good show. I now look forward to watching the movies too!

Two real problems with the venue though - the temperature was unbearable for a near 4 hour show. Sitting in what must felt like 16 degrees really detracted from the enjoyment. Secondly, the ticket office was a joke. We had to queue for 40 minuets to get our tickets as there was only one poor guy on the desk - the Istana budaya team were unaware of the problem and when challenged plamed the production company. We were saved by a very helpful producer who gave us alternative seats. Thank you Enfinity.

My tips therefore... 1) bring a blanket 2) get there at least 90 minutes before the performance 3)Get back to school to learn BM.

Interesting, well you know what you can do with power and money. I am not surprise if Istana Budaya do not want to put extra staff when the production company is getting millions from corporations. Next time Istana Budaya should charge more to the wealthy company. (hah jealous lah tu!!!)

Congratulations to the staging of P.Ramlee. Frankly I think it's a bit too long, the direction is a bit haywire and not so focus!!! Good decision to bring all the stars - Siti, Liza, Atilia, Melisa and Sean (thanks to celebrity connection!)at least they could sing, except Melisa(I know she has one album, but hey, this is live singing), she should just stick to acting, she is a great actor! I also agree that the tain is the star created in P.Ramlee musical just like the steeps and the mountain in PGL. The funniest scene or song in the musical is listening to Saloma singing Pocahontas, in fact few friends from the corporate world agreed that the musical should be called "P.Ramlee Meets Pocahontas in Disneyland". Punya banyak composer Melayu kat Malaysia, dah tu lagunya bukannya sodap nak letak sebelah dengan lagu2 P.Ramlee. Alamat boleh tidur dah

Yaye Yaye The train! marks an awesome, impressive set design for this musical... my friends + i, we like this PRamlee musical wayyyyy better than PGLM... Pglm was overrated, yet this one is way way way awesome... the set/ the costumes... i just adore them... sean ghazi makes a great remy... yet i feel that he, at most times is extremely overshadowed by his wives here(huhu, i just feel the heroines are more dramatic, they outshined remy with their singing in a way too i guess)... but what the heck! this remy musical is sooo lovable!

Show focused on the Loves. What happened to the Musical & Inspiration? Why werent more P Ramlee's songs performed? Didnt get the 'what was the point of that?' arrangements and unmemorable lyrics.

Reading rave press reviews of P Ramlee's 2nd wife's role only goes to show that Malaysian audiences think the definition of a great performance is appearing in a slinky dress. Is it so that no one will notice her singing off key and over-drama?

Clever sets. Long scene changes.

Sean was good. At least he got to sing the Legend's songs.

Can't remember the rest.

Nominees for the next Cameronian Awards willl be interesting...

So should I buy tickets or not! Those ticket prices aren't cheap and I have a family of 6. And will I enjoy it if I don't understand a word of Bahasa?

To "Culturally Lost",

There are English surtitles, so worry not. If you LOVE musicals, you may want to catch this. The sets are absolutely gorgeous, and some of the singers are really excellent. The show could be A LOT shorter, but generally it should be a good time out for the whole family.

Great show! Good value for money! I think directors and producers should CUT THE LAST SCENE. Although the closing of studio is important but because there isn't anything visually (the car is not that fascinating)or musically interesting or new at that point, it is best to just cut it out and move to the last scence immediately. It is TOO LONG now...Generally, good performance standard from all. Congrats!

Sean and Liza were fabulous! Supporting actors Douglas Lim and BS Rajans were wonderful! Singing and dancing a bit wet!Cannot hear words of ensemble singing AT ALL - Muffled and unintelligble. Show was TOO LONG!!!! Great SETS - Raja Malik is a genius!! Tiara is a marketing genius too! Congratulations!

In spite of its drawbacks, PRTM is another landmark for Malaysian theatre. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Sean Ghazi took on the unenviable task of portraying one of Malaysia's icons, and IMHO, succeeded admirably. Liza Hanim, in spite of being new to musical theatre, delivers a memorable Saloma. Great vocals too!

Melissa Saila lacks in the vocals department but made up for it in the dramatics. Atilia and Dato Siti perfectly suited the roles they played, and have wonderful voices to boot.

Joseph Gonzales, Colin Kirton (who is proving to be a great character actor) and Douglas Lim lent a nice muhibbah feel to things, as well as good comedy. It was nice to see Kirton and Lim playing alongside each other in such contrasting roles from their earlier pairing in last year's 'Broken Bridges'. A pity they were so underutilised in PRTM.

Special mention also goes to the ensemble who gave an energetic performance. I particularly liked the emcee character, the loud film production manager, the 3 women who appear in many scenes, and the paparazzi (cool moves, guys).

Raja Malik's set was simply awesome! Erwin Gutawa and the orchestra were amazing! I know some people didn't like the songs, but I absolutely loved them all. Pat Ibrahim did a nice job with the choreography too. A nice mix of traditional and modern, which I thought worked well, although I'm sure it has upset the purists. :D

And now for the not so good things....

Yes, it is a bit too long. Admittedly it didn't feel like 3 hours, but I think it could have been cut down to a maximum 2½ hours without sacrificing too much. Do remember that people need to get home and have to work the next day - other than on weekends, of course.

The sound quality needs much improvement. Because of the muffled sound, my wife and I had trouble following the dialogue and songs. So we had to depend on the subtitles for help. Which brings me to my next complaint....

For more than half of the first act, the subtitles weren't working. When they were, the fellow operating them must have been sleeping, because they were out of synch with what was happening on stage. Other friends who have watched the show tell me that they didn't even get any subtitles the whole night. I pity those who don't understand BM if they were there on those nights.

Finally RM25 for a programme book is extortion!!!

PRTM is still a great show which I would recommend without hesitation. I hope Enfinity Productions can tie up some of the loose ends on the technical side.

I went for da 3pm show on the 20th of oct...

my verdict: SPECTACULAR!!! But Puteri Gunung Ledang the musical is still my fave...

It was the bomb!

Sean was fantastic in his role as da legendary P.Ramlee. Perfect all-rounder: dancing + singing + acting = top notch performance!! when he sang for the first time in his entrance scene, a song: Azizah, i was at a point where i was confused as to whose voice was i hearing. i actually thought it was the late P.Ramlee! but it was apparent when he pitched the higher notes, cuz he had his own characteristic in his voice while pitching the higher register. Highest point: heart-wrenching rendition of "hujan di tengah hari".

Siti was not impressive in my opinion (sorry siti fans!) as i had high expectations on her voice as i felt that the projection wasn't that clear. Could it be the miking? cuz the overall soundsystem was not at their best today. Highest point: duet song with Sean.

Atilia playing Junaidah has a very clear crisp voice. She was da best singer as in we could hear her words very clearly. Highest point: Tearful solo piece when he was breaking up with P.Ramlee.

Melissa Saila as Norizan was classy elegant. She portrayed her so well! I loved the level of class she brought to the character. Loved all of her costumes (kudos to the ppl responsible!)! Highest point: The angry piece during the fight with P.Ramlee. I felt it man!

Liza Hanim as Saloma? WHOA!!! STANDING OVATION!! she hit the bullseye! i found her flawless. Natural. And the voice control and range was powerful. Powerhouse vocals! She's beyond words. I definitely have new respect for her! Loved every scene that she was in! Indescribable. Highest point? the scene on the bench with P.Ramlee til the end of the proposal. *fuh!*

Chedd Yusoff as Sukardi was great, he added a lot of humor in the show. Why did i save him for last? because i was especially impressed with his dancing. He was one of my favourites in the show. Gained new respect for this man. Highest point: the train scene. My fave scene from the whole thing!

Kudos and hats off to Datin Seri Tiara, Adlin Aman Ramlie, Zahim Al-Bakri and all those who made the show a success. Thanx to all of you, people like us can be proud with what we malaysians can accomplish and i wish to be like that one day. The malaysian arts are definitely on a class of its own with shows like this!

and congrats to Pat Ibrahim for the fantastic choreography. Like what i said to him in a "fan meet-n-greet moment": the choreography was daymn CUN! loving da wedding scene and of coz, da train scene.

Overall? MUST WATCH PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

As a non-Malaysian and non-BM speaker I just want to ensure everyone that the musical is easy to follow - whether the subtitles are on or not - just read the synopsis in the programme before the show. Music is international and the acting and staging makes it easy enough to follow, even for my 5 year old son who I took along the second time I was watching it...
It's a great show and definitely worth watching. If you don't catch it this time round, wait for the re-run which I hope is coming soon! (I took a lot of my friends along after I had watched it the first time and they all agreed - you learn a lot about the Malaysian way of life - specifically from the P Ramlee era which seemed to have been more exciting times than the present in many ways

Yes, I almost cried...There were great moments captured on stage. The songs and scores sung by those amazing actors swept me through a wonderful journey into the life of P.Ramlee. The set was absurdly grand. The lights magically brought the environment to life. As much as I don't know P.Ramlee personally, suddenly I miss him to da max.

Encore...encore...SPECTACULAR PRODUCTION. Great work and thankz Tiara Jacquelina! I'll be patiently waiting for soundtrack

Okay, did i go see teh same musical as everyone?

Kudos: The set,the set. Fantastic production and switchovers were well done.

Liza Hanim and Melissa Saila-fantastic job ladies

The darts: It all started off wrongly with the cringe-inducing Penang song.Frankly, all the songs are forgettable, cheesy lyrics with bad Manglish thrown in for good measure. Sure,sure..that's "charming" eh?.

The only good song (original) was Datuk Siti's. A bit disappointed as P.Ramlee's compositions interwoven with the story may have worked better than a-cringe-a-minute-songs.Please,did it have to be so broadway?.

The directing was subtle..that my guests and i thought there was hardly any. The plot was as holey as cheese cloth and really, why the whole emphasis on the separation issue?.

Instead of the life, loves and inspiration it felt more like a series of sketches of his relationships.
