| Description | Qings & Kueens was officially formed in the forth quarter of 2001. S. Vimalendran (vocals / guitars) and Paul Chuah (guitars) met way back in 1995 when they where classmates. They met a friend, Kevin Theseira (bass) who stayed in their neighborhood and played music as well. The three would jam weekly at a local playground, playing and learning songs that were popular on radio.
Progressing in their individual musical tastes and styles, the three played in several bands throughout their high school days. It was in mid-2001 that Vima and Paul decided to take their hobby to the next level. With Kevin and Jerry Soon (drums), they started to jam and make music. Fusing the jazz-influenced rhythm sections of Kevin and Jerry and the more rock approach of Vima and Paul, Qings & Kueens’ music emphasizes melodic content and musical arrangement. As a fairly new band, they hope to contribute to the local music industry in Malaysia. Qings & Kueens has received critical acclaim from publications such as The Star, Galaxie, and KLue. Educational and / or professional training: Vima - Dip., Computer Engineering; Paul - 1st Degree, Mechanical Engineering; Jerry - Dip., Information Technology; Kevin - Major in Music, Akademi Seni Kebangsaan. Selected bibliography of works and / or performances: Qings & Kueens participated in the Asian Beat 2002 competition and finished 3rd in the Grand National Finals. After their Royal Sessions EP release in June 15, 2003 at Emporium Grand Cafe, their 1st single We're Gonna Rock You managed to storm the mainstream music scene by surprise, staying at No. 1 for 3 consecutive weeks in the Hitz FM Malaysian Top 10 chart and also in various positions in the Top 30 International chart. The band’s official website and their 2nd single, entitled Silent Melody, was launched on October 2, 2003. The successful launch party lead them to perform in two of the biggest rock concerts of the year: DISTORTION 2003, at Stadium Merdeka; and Rock The World IV, at KLCC. Silent Melody also entered the Hitz FM Malaysian Top 10 chart. Qings & Kueens was invited to contribute to a local compilation album, Decibel 01, a collaboration between KLue magazine and Levi’s, featuring 14 of the best homegrown music acts. As a follow-up, Qings & Kueens was also invited to KLue’s Urbanscapes creative arts festival in 2004. Qings & Kueens's recent gigs include performing for the Asian X-Games in Bukit Jalil and the AXN-Asian Fear Challenge in One Utama. Affiliations: SHOUT Entertainment (label). |
