| Description | Sek Thim received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame in U.S.A. in 1989. He worked in New York City for a while before finally settling in Kuala Lumpur in 1991. Since then, he has been making pots and teaching at various art colleges in greater Kuala Lumpur until 2002 when he founded Reka art space. Even though he has not been a prolific artist, his works have made their way to private collections in the United States, Tokyo and here, in Kuala Lumpur. He is also represented in the National Art Gallery of Malaysia.
Besides making pots and teaching, Sek Thim has also been active in the local theatre scene. A member of 5-Arts Centre - a collective of theatre practitioners, artists and supporters - he has worked with some of KL theatre’s brightest personalities, amongst them: Krishen Jit, Marion D’Cruz, Leow Puay Tin, Joe Hasham, Anne James and Wong Hoy Cheong; acting, dancing and directing in small and big productions over the last 10 years. Most have been in KL but some have taken him as far as Berlin and Manchester. |
