PRESS STATEMENT FROM NA'A MURAD, FILM WORKER by Na'a Murad

Basically, for the past 14 years, ICT has been a “coffee-shop” for the middle-classes. A Malaysian coffee-shop is where people sit around grumble, criticize and joke about society, politics, each other – in fact, everything. ICT has had a following in the past 14 years which shows that some people can take it. Some people cant. But that’s the beauty of free choice. Some people can choose not to like ICT – they may even criticize it. But if DBKL bans ICT, on the opinions of a small fragment of people who happen to have watched the show, and are offended, then they are saying that the views of that minority are more important than the views of the majority of the audience. Let’s put it this way, I find WWF (World Wrestling Federation) violent and moronic, but I wouldn’t want the WWF banned on just my opinion, or the opinion of a few people, when lots of people enjoy it. Banning things for a prejudiced few is medieval. It protects no one, and it hurts everyone.
